In high school she liked music and played the violin. Jan enjoyed snow skiing, cross country skiing, playing golf, swimming, raced in triathlons, was an accomplished seamstress, loved to sew and enjoyed participating in and facilitating Marriage Encounter groups for 40 years. At age 60, Jan was recruited by World Financial Group where she became a financial advisor holding five security licenses at age 60. She was employed by Channel 10 in Milwaukee. She reorganized the fund-raising auction at Catholic Memorial High School and ran the same event for St. She started the preschool program during Sunday Mass at St. Always community minded, she volunteered for various ventures such as docent at Milwaukee Art Museum. Jan worked as a Medical Technologist at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. As children grew and went to school, she was able to start her professional working career. Starting her family would eventually have her time devoted to raising her six children. While Richard was attending college out East, Jan worked for Eastman Kodak as a lab analyst. On December 28, 1957, she married Richard Johnson in Carroll, IA. She received her Medical Technology degree from Creighton University.
